Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Dr. Vodder method

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a non-invasive, specialised form of light rhythmical skin massage that drains excess fluid in the connective tissue by stretching and increasing lympho-angio-motoricity.

The therapist moves the skin over the underlying tissue thereby stimulating the lymph system to speed up and increase the rate at which it contracts, thus draining excess fluid from the connective tissue and having a decongestive effect by removing waste products and toxins from the body.

MLD has numerous health benefits and is an accepted treatment in rehabilitation units, physiotherapist departments and massage departments worldwide.

MLD and Lymphoedema

Manual Lymphatic Drainage plays a valuable role in the treatment of Lymphoedema, a condition which causes excessive amounts of fluids to be retained in the body causing swelling and discomfort of the limbs or body.

Lymphoedema can develop following treatment for breast cancer and other cancers.

Post-surgery MLD

MLD is also used as an aftercare preventative measure for post-surgery complications as it accelerates the healing process and reduces swelling, inflammation and pain.

It also helps prevent scarring, fibrosis formation, adhesions and body asymmetrics.

For this reason cosmetic surgeons recommend that their patients book a course of post-surgery MLD treatments to speed up healing and improve cosmetic outcomes

Consultation & treatment

At your first appointment there will be a consultation and examination, and a treatment plan will be put in place. Everything we discuss during your consultation and subsequent therapy sessions is treated in the strictest confidence.

For people with Lymphoedema it is important that you have ongoing treatments at regular intervals to manage your Lymphoedema and prevent complications.

Increasingly cosmetic surgeons are recommending a course of MLD treatments after cosmetic surgery to speed up and improve healing.

MLD is most beneficial if it commences as soon as possible after surgery; it is advisable to book treatments prior to surgery. For optimum results a course of MLD treatments is recommended.

Professional and caring

With previous management experience in the Care Sector, I first became interested in massage after experiencing for myself the tremendous feeling of well-being that I gained from my first course of treatments.

I went on to qualify in Holistic Massage, and trained as a Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Decongestive Lymphatic Therapist (DLT) with the highly acclaimed Dr. Vodder School of Austria. I have been working as a professional and caring therapist since 2010.
